Makame Mahmud

Makame Mahmud has completed his undergraduate in Environmental Management and his M.Sc. in Climate Change and Development from Independent University, Bangladesh. He is currently working as a regional employee of the Asia Regional Management Unit (ARMU), CARE and also as an Assistant to Asia Regional Director at CARE Bangladesh. Makame has previously worked as a research consultant at Climate Change and Disaster Management Division, Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) and as Research Assistant (RA) at the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD). He was one of the authors of a jointly published publication report from the Gobeshona platform at ICCCAD on “Adaptation Technology in Bangladesh.” Since July 2019, he has also been a researcher at the Institute of Development Studies and Sustainability (IDSS). Makame himself is the founder of four organizations - Environmental Researchers BD (ERBD), Think Creative Be Creative (TCBC), Tuition Master BD (TMBD) and Humanity For World (HFW). Makame has also been involved with Unmad Satire monthly Magazine since 2008.

Afsana Afrin Esha

Afsana Afrin Esha completed her BSc in Environmental Sciences in 2018 and MSc in Climate Change and Development in 2020. In 2020, she and her team at Bioforge Health Systems Limited was the recipient of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Award, Solver Class of MIT Solve Newborn & Maternal Health Challenge. Esha has worked as a research associate at Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM) at BUET and is currently pursuing her PhD on Human Geography at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience, Durham University, UK.

Jannatul Ferdous

Jannatul Ferdous graduated with a B.Sc. in Environment Management in 2017 and went on to do an M.Sc. in Disaster Management from the University of Dhaka. Currently she is working with UN-World Food Program, Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh as Program Assistant- DRR unit, where she focused on knowledge and information management of both the Rohingya camp and the host community. Previously she worked with UNICEF, Bangladesh as a UNV-Knowledge Management Officer, Education. She was the focal point of Disaster Risk management working group (DRMWG) of the Education sector. She also was taking lead and monitoring Education sector COVID19 activities via collecting data from partners which was published by Inter Sector Co-ordination Group (ISCG). Jannat started her professional career as a Junior Project Executive at Global Capacity Building and Consultancy Limited. (GCBCL) where she was involved with different project such as Feasibility Study of Environment Friendly Ship Re-Cycling Industry at Taltali Upazila in Barguna District and also working as Training Facilitators of Five Days Training Program on ESIA- IPFF (II)Project Cell, Bangladesh Bank. Jannatul has also worked at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh Government as an intern and worked with Technische University Dresden , Germany as a research assistant where research focus was “Research into Roles of Managers at RMG factories in Bangladesh around Sustainability Implementation”.

Rumana Khan

Rumana Khan, Autumn 2002 batch, is currently working as Gender Based Violence (GBV) Cluster Coordinator with UNFPA in Bangladesh. Her main role is to address gender based violence through coordination among all NGOs and Government agencies working across the board in addressing gender equality, women’s empowerment and violence against women. She is also part of the humanitarian community addressing climate related disasters, where she advocates for addressing women and girls’ protection issues. Rumana completed B.Sc in Environmental Science from IUB in 2006 and in the same university completed Master in Public Health (MPH) in 2007. She started her UN career in 2007 at the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator and has worked briefly in with the UN Offices in Cambodia and Samoa.

Zihadul Abedin

Zihad completed his undergrad in Environmental Science from IUB in 2018 and then completed his Masters degree in Environment Management in 2020. He started his professional career as a Research Assistant at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) – Bangladesh, the global leader for research and development in maize and wheat systems, being involved in the research activities under CSISA III, Fighting Fall Armyworm, and CCAFS FP2 projects. He also did his Internship at CIMMYT in 2018, being involved in the Mitigation Research Studies and Participatory Integrated Climate Services for Agriculture (PICSA). Currently, he is working as a Monitoring and Coordination Assistant to Managing Director at Libra Infusions Limited. Throughout his academic life, he was an active member of several clubs and participated in many extra-curricular activities & leadership programs and served as the General Secretary of Green Planet Club, IUB (GPC). As part of my studies we had to go to village and stay with rural people for a three week immersive field research program. When doing that I fell in love with Bangladeshi villages and our rural folk. I also felt very strongly this urge to do something to improve the dismal quality of services people have access to, especially in healthcare.
