Welcome to Climate Change and Development Program

Climate change due to human interference in the atmosphere has now been accepted as being one of the most important global threats facing the world mainly due to the assessment reports for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). All the countries of the world have recognized the importance of this issue by signing the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) committing them to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases through mitigation.
As more and more developing countries understand the problem of climate change impacts and start to look at how to carry out adaptation in harmony with development there will be a need for trained personnel with an understanding of the linkages between climate change (specially adaptation) and development as well as further ongoing research to answer new questions that will undoubtedly continue to arise with time.
It is anticipated that the graduates of this Masters program in Climate Change and Development will play an influential role in shaping and contributing to the critical climate change and development capacity building efforts. These graduates will be able to offer a unique perspective and insight having emerged from a program that is set in a country likely to face many of the potential impacts from climate change ranging from increased floods, droughts and hurricanes as well as coastal flooding and salinity intrusion due to sea level rise.
